ATPL Theory Course (E-Learning)

Our ATPL Theory E-Learning is an approved distance learning programme that includes interactive video, slides, tape presentations and computer-based training, with formal class tuition, allowing a student to receive all the necessary knowledge to complete the exams in the 13 ATPL subjects.

Course overview

Our unique training philosophy aims not only to achieve excellent exam results, but more importantly, to produce professional pilots whose knowledge stays within them throughout their careers.

The ATPL Theory E-Learning approach comprises of distance learning and classroom sessions split into three modules, enabling you to focus on one third of the subjects at a time, while building and applying your knowledge.

Each ATPL Theory module is mapped out in a study guide and consists of reading assignments from our iPad iBooks, course tests and Ground School days. After successfully completing a module you will take the corresponding UKCAA or EASA exams.

ATPL Theory Course (E-Learning)

Entry criteria

To be accepted on to our ATPL Theory E-Learning course:

Age and height

Be at least 17 to submit an application and at least 18 to commence training.

 

Minimum height 5 ft. 2 in. (157 cm), maximum height 6 ft. 3 in. (191 cm). Applicants who fall outside of this may still apply but will need an ergonomic assessment in our training aircraft and simulators.

Language

Fluent in English (spoken and written).

 

Non-native English speakers must achieve level 5.5 individual and overall in IELTS or equivalent ICAO level 4 prior to start of training.

 

We offer an English Language Proficiency course for international students:

 

  • Cost: €500
  • Duration: 2 weeks (10 days)
  • Location: Remote study (students can join the classes remotely via Zoom)
  • Content: 5 hours tuition per day to improve your English for aviation skills. The price includes initial and final assessment. If the cadet achieves the required standard at the end of the course they will be invited to start their ATPL training

Education

Hold a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) in different subjects at grade C/4 or above, which must include Mathematics, Science and English Language.

 

OR

 

Be able to demonstrate that you have successfully completed secondary or high school education (or equivalent).

Medical

Be able to obtain:

 

UKCAA Class 1 Medical if you are training for a UKCAA ATPL licence.

 

OR

 

EASA Class 1 Medical if you are training for an EASA ATPL licence.

Visas

Studying in Europe:

 

Unrestricted right to live, study and work in the European Economic Area (EEA)/Switzerland (e.g. EEA/Swiss national, UK national with EU settled or pre-settled status, etc).

 

OR

 

Meet the European Union requirements to qualify for an EU Student or Study visa.

 

Studying in the UK:

 

Unrestricted right to live, study and work in the UK (e.g. UK national, EU national with settled or pre-settled status, etc).

 

OR

 

Meet the United Kingdom Visa & Immigration Service (UKVI) requirements to qualify for a Visitor (study for six months or less) or Student visa (study for more than six months).

Background checks

Produce a criminal record check (CRC) basic disclosure certificate before training can commence.

ATPL Theory Course (E-Learning)

Selection process onto the ATPL Theoretical Knowledge course

Selection is mandatory and consists of technical and non-technical elements. The technical elements will test skills such as numeracy and aptitude and the non-technical is an interview. If you are a PPL holder you will not be required to sit the technical elements (subject to logbook review by our selection team), but you will still have to attend an interview.

ATPL Theory E-Learning FAQs

Is the ATPL Theory hard?

Naturally, some cadets will find ATPL Theory examinations more difficult than others. Cadets are required to achieve at least 75% in all 13 examinations.

Our ground school training at L3Harris Airline Academy is delivered by experienced, expert Theoretical Knowledge Instructors that are committed to providing an unparalleled level of pilot training to ensure cadets achieve excellent exam results.

What are my funding options for ATPL Theoretical Knowledge training?

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide any funding or finance options directly from L3Harris.

We would suggest potential cadets speak with their families and a variety of banks, lenders and independent financial advisors to secure funding.
